+ Who are fellows?
The Code for Victoria Fellowship is a paid, full-time six-month period of government service for experienced technologists. Cross-functional teams of three are embedded in Victorian Government departments and agencies to develop digital tools that help the Government deliver key public services in the health, economic development, and safety and justice sectors.
While the technology is what most applicants are interested in, we focus on getting people involved in digital transformation; encouraging innovation, reducing technology risk, and increasing public sector capacity for transparency and efficiency. The successful Fellows will join the hundreds of Fellows in more than 140 cities globally, that are working to show what's possible through invest in civic technology.
+ Why become a fellow?
A fellowship is your chance to use your skills to directly impact the lives of Victorians. Previous fellows have improved the permitting processes for small business owners, made it easy for parents to enroll their children in schools, connected families with food assistance, and helped people avoid unnecessary bench warrants.
+ What makes a good fellow?
Fellows come from a range of fields including software development, design, data science, product management and GIS. Fellows are curious, creative, entrepreneurial and have a demonstrated commitment to teamwork and respectful communication. We welcome and support technologists from traditionally underrepresented communities. You must be eligible to work in Australia in 2017.
+ Where do fellows work?
Fellows are predominantly based at their state government partner office and also spend extensive periods of at the Code for Australia HQ in Melbourne.
+ The fine print
Fellowships run from 6-12 months and are a period of full-time civic service.
Typically, Fellowship teams include a developer, designer and community organiser.
You will be your own boss.
Expressions of interest will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
